Independence: shun bitterness - Okorocha urge leaders

A former Governor of Imo, Sen. Rochas Okorocha, has advised leaders to shun bitterness and rancour in order to make Nigeria better.

Okorocha gave the advice in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Owerri.

Although he admitted that Nigeria was passing through series of challenges, he, however, said that some other counties in the world also passed through similar challenges before they arrive at their present positions.

“This sacrifice of patriotism is not for us alone, but for the generations yet unborn and for the sake of the future of the nation.

“We are turning 59, but I tell you that there could still be light at the darkest end of the tunnel; so let’s continue to make sacrifice for the country,’’ he advised.

Okorocha, who is the senator representing Imo West at the National Assembly, said time had come for Nigerians to begin to sing a new song of progress for Nigeria

Conditions For Resumption of school Nationwide

The Federal Government has given conditions for academic activities to resume in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, in Abuja on Tuesday. Russia Paid Off $20 Billion Debt Owed By African Nations

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has written off $20 billion of accumulated debt owed by African countries during the Soviet era. Putin said this during the Russia-Africa forum in Sochi. He added that the funds from those debts were being used to set up special programmes to support Africa’s economic development. “Russia had recently written off $20 billion of debt owed by African countries,” Putin said, adding, “funds from those debts were being used to set up special programmes to support Africa’s economic development.” “It was not only an act of generosity but also a manifestation of pragmatism because many of the African states were not able to pay interest on these loans,” he said.
